Updating The Estimation Of 1 Day Probable Maximum Precipitation In South Africa

This study presents updated and modernised 1-day probable maximum precipitation (PMP) estimates for South Africa using extended rainfall records and a storm maximisation and transposition approach. The new estimates are generally larger than previous ones, highlighting the need for continual revision as new extreme rainfall events occur. The PMP is critical for the design and risk management of high-hazard hydraulic structures.
