This publication reports on a WRC project focused on technology transfer and evaluation of SAPWAT3, an irrigation water requirement estimation and planning tool. It aims to (i) verify SAPWAT3 program outputs, (ii) demonstrate SAPWAT3 to potential users, and (iii) evaluate adoption potential using innovation adoption theory (Rogers) and the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). It describes the background and rationale for disseminating SAPWAT3 widely, given its development over many years of WRC-funded research and its use in irrigation planning and licensing contexts. The report also documents enhancements such as a module to import crop data “en masse” and a module to compare SAPWAT3 estimated daily evapotranspiration against field-measured data to improve credibility and support refinement of crop coefficients and growth stage parameters. It includes methodology, example outputs (graphs/correlations), and survey results on user acceptance, usefulness, ease of use, barriers, and preferred support mechanisms.
