Water Footprint Accounting for Fruit and Vegetable Crops in South Africa

This research project investigated water footprint (WF) metrics for important fruit and vegetable crops in South Africa. The study explored various WF assessment methodologies, including those from the Water Footprint Network (WFN) and life cycle assessment (LCA) approaches. Two catchment case studies, the Steenkoppies Aquifer and the Olifants-Doorn Water Management Area, were utilized to evaluate blue, green, and grey WFs. The research aimed to interpret the usefulness of generated information for water resource management and consumer awareness.
